Hey y'all, I wanted to have a place where we could find answers for typical questions we might have about use of the board. This thread is open, if anyone has an idea to add! By all means fell free. Please don't think I'm singling someone out, or mistake any of this for a scolding.
I'm a tech junkie, so the first thing that comes to mind would be the tech section. If you post as much info as you can about your situation, then the answer your looking for will come much more quickly. Now you may only know (for instance) that the transmission thingy is making a "cat in heat" type of noise. It would be much better to also post the make/model/year of your vehicle. Is it a manual or automatic. Do you know the trans's model#? Has any work been done recently to it? Have you recently checked the fluid level? & so on. If you think about it, you can already have narrowed it down enough that the first person capable of helping you, may actually be able to help without getting into a 7page Q&A.

The same sort of thing goes for those trying to sell or buy something, the more details you have the easier it is for someone else to make a decision. If you want to buy a lift kit for a 1978 K5 Blazer, & you know that one from a pickup truck will work too then mention it. You might be seeing the UPS truck a whole week sooner.

I'd also like to mention the subject of "needing help". If you need someone to physically come to your location & lend a hand with anything, You should start with your location. Next would be whatever sense of urgency you are experiencing. You could be broke down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. You call someone who has the ability to get on the board. There may be a member who lives a mile or two from where you are. It would be best to give any details you can think of. It may make a big difference to whoever comes out. They might just bring all the right parts & tools to do the job right there.

Slow down & think about what you would do if you had all the right parts & tools before you make the call.

If you have a cell phone on you, & you are in a hard to see spot you may decide to post your number on the intrawebs.
You may or may not have a problem wanting to do this. If you are not too keen on the idea, you could always delete it when you get home. Or whoever did your posting could delete it after problem solved.

If you need extra hands at your house & you live at the beach, then I (living near Charlotte) wont be of much use. All the particulars on the job at hand will be helpful too. If your asking for help pulling an engine, & you have a rope and a tree limb, maybe the guy coming to help might have a cherry picker.

I have been doing these type of things for years,(actually certified AAA road service technician "83" & "84") I'm usually the guy whose phone rings at 3 a.m. Trust me there can never be too many details.

Feel free to add to this thread with the reply key, maybe you can think of a hint or two to make it easier for others to use this board to their full advantage.

I'll add to this thread as I think of more, Paul.

Most of you youngin's have been using computers since preschool. I'm positive you could teach me more than a thing or two. I have figured out how to post web links. Not an easy task for an old cave man.

Anyway you find some good info, go back to the web link, Right click it & copy link location. Then go to your thread & click on the spot you want to put the link at. Then just right click & hit paste.

To post multiple links in a vertical row as opposed to on the same line, hit the enter key after each new link.
This
will
stack
them
up
like
so.

For really good links, Right click & hit bookmark this link. Then you don't have to go searching for it again.

Another place to find answers about using the board, is at the top of forums page. Just to the right of the user CP, you'll find the FAQ feature. This can be very helpful to new users with little forum board experience.

No expert on this, I use; http://photobucket.com/ . Once you set up a free account, you go to download pics. There you have several options which you might know more about than I do.
The only one I use, links to my PC. So I go to my pictures to upload to photobucket. (herein referred to as P/B)
You click on the pic you want, then open, then it loads to P/B. My pics contains my digital camera photos & many things I have downloaded from the intrawebs. You see an image you like, right click & save as. Then route it to (my pictures). I can steal smileys from other forum boards, or smiley sites. I can google any image, & bring it here right now.

http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh83/buckshot500/baghdad-bob.jpg No, Iraq is fine! The Americans are not bombing us!
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh83/buckshot500/250px-Foghorn_Leghorn.png Ah say!
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh83/buckshot500/generalLee.jpg Cletus will never find us up here Luke!

You get the idea, once in your P/B album you click on the image code (last one down), go back to your post then right click & paste.
Helps to open P/B in a second tab, then you can transfer pics one right after the other.
Be warned, P/B somehow checks your albums & uploads for content. No I found this out before trying it, in case your wondering.
OH, they have a decent editing feature as well. Not as good as photoshop, but it's good for most things I need.http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh83/buckshot500/Paper-1-1.jpg

So to recap, you see an image you want, right click on it>save as> my pictures>New file
Then go to P/B (open in a new tab)>upload images>back to album>copy image code
Then back to your thread tab>right click>paste

If you click on someones user name, it takes you to their visitor message box.
You can leave them a message, view other things about them, or private message them.

If someone sends you a visitor message, you may be inclined to reply in your own box. If you do this, it will only post in your box. The only way anyone will see it, is if they happen to want to send you a message. Even then, only if they scroll down to read your messages.

So if you want to send a visitor message back to someone, you need to click on their user name 1st.

EDIT: Alternately, you can use the "View Conversation" function in the V/M area & reply there once you click it.
